Wow, haven't done one of these in a while. I really don't
feel like trying to catch up from the last time, so I am just going to update
on the latest happenings.
School has been surprisingly easy so far. I'm not sure if it is because I am
finally learning about stuff that interests me or if the material is just that
easy, but I'll take it. My GPA can always use a boost, especially with the hole
I've already dug for it. It seems like each class have very little material to cover
as none of my professors seem to be in any hurry to teach. Last Wednesday we
went on a field trip to Toledo
with my Structures class to check out some of the latest civil engineering
projects being done in the area. The new bridge in Toledo is going to be really cool, but the
rest of the stops we made were not only pointless, but showed me that working
for a contractor is a pain in the ass. It seemed like every civil engineer we
met on this trip absolutely hated their job. On Tuesday we head to Columbus for a
transportation engineering conference. Hopefully this trip will be more fun as
transportation engineering is the field I would really like to pursue.
On Friday night just before midnight, my grandma passed away. She has been
fighting a little bit of everything for years now and it is a miracle that she
has even lasted this long. Every time she would get really sick, my parents
would prepare for her death by making the trip to Minnesota to visit her for one last time,
but somehow she would always find a way to recover and be healthy for another
year. On Wednesday around noon the doctors gave her just a couple hours to
live, but once again she somehow hung on for over 2 days. As much as I want to
fly to Minnesota
to go to her funeral on Tuesday, my family and I know that I cannot afford to
miss any school. It's not a huge deal for me to be missing the funeral, but I
do feel bad not being there for my family.
Everything else in my life has been going well. The lady friend and I have been
great, even though I still don’t understand how she can continuously put up
with my childlike behavior. I guess I shouldn’t complain as I am happier now
than I have ever been. My birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and I
cannot wait to not be 20 anymore. I’m getting sick of being an adult without
all the adult responsibilities (aka drinking in public). Before then I have 2
concerts to go to (Mute Math on November 10th and Heavens on
November 16th) and of course I have to pass all of my finals.
I know I have left stuff out, but I really should get back to
writing these 3 lab reports I was supposed to do a while ago. I guess that’s what
I get for being the biggest procrastinator ever.

| I got the Perrysburg job!!! Not only does this mean that I get to take
classes at ONU and do work that actually has to do with my major, but now I get to see Megan all summer! I would've gone crazy if I would have had to stay here. I almost got in my car this morning to drive back to Ohio to see her, but I guess I can tough out a few more days.
Glenview is basically just as I left it...boring and lifeless. Good part is that I am only here for a few days, but the bad part is that I know I'm not going to see everyone that I want to see in the short time that I am here. I guess the ball is going to be in their court to come visit me in Ohio.
Friday I am driving up to Minnesota with my family to see my Grandma and other relatives. Even though I have to get back to Ohio to move in, my mom is making me go to Minnesota with them. Basically what this means is that my Grandma is not doing well and my mom wants to ensure that I get to see her at least one more time before she passes. She has had a lot of scares in the last couple of years and has miraculously rebounded from each one. She actually legally died and was resuscitated 2 years ago and by all means should not have survived this long. I seem to think it's because whenever I go up to see her when she's sick, she gets better. Hopefully I can work my magic and cure my ailing Grandma yet again.
I found out today who my roommate will be for the summer, and it's not good. There was this guy named Steve that stalked Lisa all year at ONU, and I'm the lucky one that gets to room with him this summer. Yay, I'm stoked. I'm pretty much going to demand getting moved from that room, but that can't happen until tomorrow. I don't mean to sound anti-social, but I'd much rather live on my own than live with that kid.

| OK, I am going to attempt to describe the concert last night to the best of my ability...
First off, the venue (Headliners) was an okay place to see a show. It
was a pretty run down warehouse, but it had a good sound. I wasn't a
big fan of the random pole in the middle of the floor, but I was way in
front of it the whole time so it didn't bug me.
The first band to hit the stage was a local band called Mindshift. I'm
not about to go out and buy their merchandise or look to when they are
playing next, but they put on a pretty good show and were not on stage
for very long. Biff and I spent the time between Mindshift and the next
time plowing our way to the front and center of the crowd.
By the time The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus hit the stage, Biff and I were
about 3 people from the front and dead center to the stage. If you have
never heard of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus before (I assume if you
didn't go to the concert that you have never heard of them), I HIGHLY
recommend that you check them out. Their first album is coming out this
summer, but check out their site (www.redjumpsuit.com) to listen to
some tracks. They will be on the radio within the next couple of
months, so get a head start and get aquainted to them now. The crowd
took a while to figure out if they liked them or not, but by the last
song everyone was moshing and and being very responsive.
The next band to hit the stage was Aiden. Everyone in our group was not
excited to see them, but as soon as they started to play everyone's
opinion changed. They had amazing stage presence and a really good live
sound. The crowd picked up the intensity, but Biff and I continued to
stay front and center. Cody, Skinny, and Justin somehow fought their
way up to where we were and enjoyed Aiden in front with us. Aiden
continued to rock and every song they played got more and more crowd
response. By the last song the lead singer was standing on the
shoulders of people in the crowd holding the microphone out for the
crowd to sing the last song.
There was a bit of a delay (45 minutes or so) before 30 Seconds To Mars
hit the stage, but that just got everyone even more excited to see
them. They started the show off with a bang by playing A Beautiful Lie.
I don't even know why Jared even bothered singing because the crowd's
singing was drowning him out. The atmosphere was...ballistic. It seemed
as if everyone went completely numb and sang every lyric while not
caring what physical pain they were going through. The next song,
Capricorn, opened up a pretty good sized mosh pit, but at this point I
was still in front barking out every lyric. Jared Leto even climbed
ontop of a 10-foot speaker and jumped off of it into the crowd. I'm not
100% sure on the order after that, but they played The Kill, Buddah for
Mary, R-Evolve, Edge of the Earth, then Fallen. During these songs I
screamed out every word and didn't care that I was slowly drifting back
and to the right a bit. Once they started to play Battle of One, I
completely lost it. There was no way I was going to stand in one place
while my favorite song was being played. I immediately grabbed Skinny
and dragged him into the enormous mosh pit that was formed in the
middle of the floor. I moshed from then until the end of the concert,
getting knocked to the floor hard twice and getting numerous elbows to
the head. The concert put me in a state of shock and did not feel a
thing (until this morning). They then played an acoustic rendition of
Was it a Dream, followed by The Fantasy, and last but no least, Attack.
I have been to a lot of concerts, but I have never seen a crowd react
to a single song quite like they did to Attack. All hell broke loose.
It was complete mayhem on the floor. At the 2nd chorus, the band
completely stopped playing while the crowd sang through the chorus by
ourselves. It was unbelievable.
At the end of the show, Skinny, Zach, Biff, and I waiting in line and
got to shake all the band members hands and got an autographed CD from
them for $10. I payed $12 for the album weeks ago at Best Buy, and here
at the concert I got another copy, signed, for $10. Rediculous. I am
still in shock and will be for quite some time.
All in all this was easily the best all around concert I have gone to.
Every band was extremely good and 30 Seconds To Mars now currently owns
my soul. End of story. | | |
| Convention was an all around good time this weekend. I don't think it
was worth the $100 I spent on the hotel and convention fee, but I did
learn a lot and am more informed about Kappa Kappa Psi and the
direction the fraternity is heading. The majority of the laughes
supplied by Ninja Tim, Laswell and Kevin. Everything from peeing in
gatorade bottles in the car to getting freaked out by creepy old ladies
that wouldn't stop staring at us. Next weekend should be even more fun.
Not only will I be going to see 30 Seconds to Mars on Friday, but now
I'm going to Columbus to see one of the best drummers in the world,
Thomas Lang. Since this is a small show at a Guitar Center, I'm hoping
to get an autograph or just talk to him. Honestly I really don't care
what he has to say, I just want to hear his badass Austrian accent.
That's about it, I'm out for now.

| Well, spring break rocked. Megan came in town on Thursday and we went
bowling with my friend Eric that night. Hanging out with him made me
realize that no one can make me laugh as easily as he and Loren can.
Hopefully at somepoint this spring we can hook up either at ONU,
Purdue, or Michigan and have a hell of a time. On Friday we took the El
to the Shedd Aquarium to see a bunch of fish. It seemed like I was
riding one of those stupid El trains everyday this break. We got back
that night just in time to meet up with Eric and my cousin Terry to go
to the Chicago Wolves game. Of course the Wolves kicked some serious
ass and destroyed the #1 team in the league 5-2. The lack of fights in
the other game we went to earlier in the week was made up for this time
as the opposing goalie jumped on one of the Wolves and started jacking
him in the face. Good times. The next day we one again headed downtown
to look around Millenium Park and Michigan Avenue.
Now I'm back at ONU ready(ish) to start the new quarter, one that will
certainly be a bitch. Calc 4, Chem 2, Material Science, and Dynamics
will most likely cause my GPA to take yet another slide. It's way too
early to bitch about though, I'll save that for a couple of weeks. As
for right now I am looking forward to St. Patrick's Day, District
Convention, and of course the 30 Seconds to Mars concert.
